I’ve always liked old postcards but I’m now fascinated by not just the postcards, but what people had written on the back. The stuff of ordinary life – news of births, deaths, mothers complaining to their sons they don’t keep in touch enough, messages sent to friends and lovers. I’m now buying postcards primarly for what is written on the back of them. I’m going to try out a blog to share some of my finds, as well as some of the things I find out about the social history that is represented in postcards. Oh and because “boring” postcards amuse me, I will be including them as well!

Hi
Could you email a jpeg of the front of your Maude Jeffries postcard. I possibly have it already (there are literally hundreds of images of her) but I am reseaching her acting career and life and am keen to learn whatever detail I can.
regards
Joseph
Greetings,
I’ve been spending some time on your lovely – and original – postcard blog and was wondering whether you would like to be included in the next Festival of Postcards, which is organized around the theme of LIGHT. I noticed your post “Will you meet me” and think the lanterns would fit in perfectly with the theme – although you are free to participate with another card. If you think you would be interested you can drop me a line at my Canadian Family site: http://acanadianfamily.com
If you’re unfamiliar with the Festival you will see links to past issues and Festival headquarters on the front page.
Happy postcarding!

Thanks for leaving your message Evelyn! I will try and get onto it this weekend – its summer in New Zealand at the moment and I have to say I haven’t been very focussed on blogging!
